Starting therapy can be a difficult decision as it is a big commitment and often not something you might have done before. Feeling safe and comfortable is one of the first things that as a therapist I will make sure is created so you can freely and openly talk about what is important to you. Therapy is a collaborative process where you will play an important role in determining the direction of the conversations and the goals you would like to achieve. It will be my role to make sure that I support you and facilitate a process where change can happen and ultimately, you can make decisions that are best for you and the goals you want to achieve. Often this process brings about a sense of renewed hope, strength and positive change.
Stress, fear , worry, sadness and grief are some of the most common and uncomfortable emotions we can experience.
By seeing "the problem" from a different lens, it can help regain perspective and joy in life.
Together we will be able to explore what may be the underlying reasons for your concerns and I will offer you new perspectives and ideas to help you better cope with the challenges that brought you to therapy.
There are many reasons why couples consider starting therapy together: difficulties with communication or problem solving, feeling distanced and disconnected, stressors related to finances or family dynamics, parenting together, infidelity and lack of trust among others. I can provide a safe and neutral space to work through the issues in a way that can help you and your partner feel listened to, understood and helping in building emotional connection.
Families come to counselling for many different reasons, such as parenting concerns, conflict between parent and their children ( young or older), communication difficulties, setting limits, family changes, hurts and losses, etc. I can help the family by helping each member understand each other and learn or improve skills to solve problems together. Everyone in the family is important and can contribute to making things better.
Change can have a big impact over time even if we start with a very small first step. If you are struggling with a decision or are needing additional support to sort out next steps a single session ( 90 minutes ) can be really helpful. Single sessions are intended to provide a forum to identify that one small change that can create a lasting impact in your present and future.
Many individuals can experience symptoms associated with painful and traumatic circumstances, such as sudden unexpected losses or drastic unexpected changes. Anxiety, fear, and hopelessness are a few emotions that can linger post traumatic events. We can help you overcome these symptoms and guide you through the process of grief and healing.
